Who are we?

Jack Kelty is the first generation to own B&L Heating and Air Conditioning.  After attending trade school to learn heating and air conditioning skills, he went to work at Bradley’s Plumbing-Air Conditioning.  Later, Jack worked out of his home until he purchased the B&L Tin shop on February 1, 1967.  The business was originally located at 211 E. 10th Avenue and was formerly owned by Chester Bilyeu and Garland LaFollette.  Jack expanded the sheet metal business to include installing heating and air conditioning units and duct work. Jack changed the name to B&L Sheet Metal shortly after buying it.  The name was later changed again in the early seventies to what is now B&L Heating and Air Conditioning.  The company became incorporated in 1981.

In the beginning, Jack’s business was very small with usually only himself and one other man.  His son, Dennis, worked some during high school, but did not come into the business full time until 1972 after serving in the U.S. Navy where he studied air conditioning and refrigeration.  For several years following, it was Dennis and Jack working together.  In early 1973, while attending college, Bonnie Puckett, joined Jack and Dennis answering the phone and taking service calls.  Later in 1973, Dennis and Bonnie were married.

In 1979, Jack retired from B&L.  Dennis and Bonnie purchased the business and then moved it to the present location of 1907 W. McMurtry in 1980.

After B&L was moved to its present location, Dennis and Bonnie ran the office out of their home and the mechanical side out of an old barn on the property.  The original building was built in 1984.  Over the next 27 years they grew the business from three employees doing small residential jobs to more than 12 employees who did major local projects like Kicker, Mercury Marine, First United Methodist Church, Christian Villa and Stillwater National Bank. In 2007, Dennis retired from B&L.

In order to house the ever-expanding company, B&L has had to add several additions to the buildings. Recently, B&L has built a new office area that houses the main office staff while turning the old offices into more work space for the B&L crew.

Kyle, Dennis and Bonnie's son, started working for B&L as a part-time employee in 1994 and then full-time in 1996.  Kyle became President of B&L in 2007 and one day will own the company.  Kyle became certified to install radiant flooring in 2003 and then was later certified in geothermal installation with IGSHPA.  Kyle has more than twenty years’ experience in his family business.  In the last few years, Kyle and Bonnie have expanded to over 25 employees and they continue to work with residential homes as well as major local commercial projects such as Asco, the Colvin Center Annex, Sparrow Hill, and Stillwater Milling Company.

B&L does residential and commercial service and repair for all makes of heating and air conditioning units; replacement units and new construction, selling Carrier heat and air units and WaterFurnace geothermal units. The business has a sheet metal shop and uses all metal ductwork in installations; does traditional heat and air systems, heat pumps, ductless-split systems, geothermal, radiant floors, chillers and boilers, controls, zoning, and Indoor Air Quality.

B&L is an IGSHPA accredited installer, a BBB accredited business, a member of Stillwater Home Builders and a member of Stillwater Chamber of Commerce.  Bonnie is a part of the Stillwater Frontier Rotary.
