High Energy Bills Got You Down?

Check for Air Leaks
  • Warm air leaking into your home during the summer and out of your home during the winter can waste a lot of your energy dollars. You can save as much as 10% on your heating and cooling bill by reducing air leaks in your home.

  • We now offer Whole Home Energy audits.

    • We can run Whole House Testing to accurately find any trouble spots in your home, and to make sure that your unit is the proper size.

Zoning
  • Zoning is a way of dividing a home into areas with similar heating and cooling needs and independently controlling the temperature in each area according to their needs and occupancy. Much like multiple light switches that independently control lighting in different rooms, with zoning, multiple zone thermostats or sensors control temperature in different areas of the home.

Maintenance Checks
  • Have your system professionally maintained at least once a year, but it is a good idea to have it done twice a year.  Once before you turn on your air conditioner and again before you turn on your heat. A properly maintained heating and cooling system can save you 10-15%.

  • Don't forget to change your filter.  At a minimum, change your filter every 3 months.  However, during a season where your unit is running more regularly, it would be better to change it monthly.  A clean filter will keep your unit running more smoothly while a dirty filter can slow it down so it has to work harder to keep up.  A dirty filter wastes energy and can cause maintenance issues down the road.

  • If your car ran as much as your heating and air conditioning system, you'd rack up close to 200,000 miles a year. Like your car, your HVAC system requires professional and regular maintenance to run efficiently and reliably.

  • Does your unit run when no one is there? Programmable vs. Non-Programmable thermostats can reduce the energy used for air conditioning or heating by 5% to 30%.

  • Programmable thermostats are an easy and great way to save money, help the environment, and stay comfortable. It's also one of the easiest and cheapest ways to reduce your energy bills.

Variable Speed Systems
Increased Comfort
  • Decreased room temperature variation
  • Better humidity control
  • Quieter operation
Enhanced Indoor Air Quality
  • Air cleaners can only filter the air when the blower is on--Variable speed is a more cost effective way to run as it only costs pennies a day and can run constantly
Save Money
  • Lower energy bills
  • Improves system performance
  • Energy Star
Insulation Check
  • The difference between the indoor temperature vs. the outdoor temperatures can keep your unit running all year long.  If your house has inadequate insulation, all your heating or cooling might be escaping.  Foam insulation is a great way to cut energy costs. The correct foam insulation can cut your energy bill by up to 50%.  Contact B&L today and we can put you in touch with some great foam insulators.

  • Don't forget to seal your heating and cooling ducts.  Air is being moved from those ducts throughout the day and night.  If they are not sealed and insulated properly, they are letting out some costly air.

Replace an Old Unit
  • Old units are not energy efficient and can be expensive to run.  Even units that are Energy Star rated can have their efficiency reduced over time.  Replacing an older unit is the optimum way to save money.  Replacing a unit can be a substantial cost, but the new unit will ultimately help lower your bills.
